UVFF: No Human Involved

26th April 4.15pm £8

No Human Involved
Directed by PJ Starr
72 Minutes

In 2009 after she was sentenced to more than two years imprisonment for prostitution, Marcia Powell was locked in a metal cage in the desert sun at an Arizona prison. Four hours later she collapsed in the 107 degree heat, and by day’s end she was dead. Even though an internal investigation by the Department of Corrections revealed that guards had denied her water and ridiculed her when she pleaded for help, no one was ever held accountable. The story of how Marcia came to be incarcerated and the circumstances of her death exposes the system that has lead to the death of many others–including sex workers, low income women and LGBT people–in facilities across t
he United States. The documentary NO HUMAN INVOLVED chronicles how a movement formed around Marcia’s case,
seeking justice in her name.
