“One in 10 young British ‘have nothing to live for'” – The Guardian, Jan 2014

In an election year the topic of the affect of a recession on youth mental health is at fever pitch. Spiralling unemployment and expensive universities causing a loss of ambition, self-esteem and a decline into depression for predominantly working-class youth.

CHANGING STATE is a darkly comic coming-of-age story set in inner city London. Three of the characters cling to the hope that the uncertainty and confusion of adolescence will clear but having returned from university one of them knows that it is a long road. As they navigate the pitfalls of modern life, they must realise that mistakes big and small are the only way forward.

CHANGING STATE is another stylised performance piece brought to you by New Slang Productions team. Their second full production since Silver Shores (2012) staged in the Tristan Bates Theatre in Covent Garden.

Praise for Silver Shores:

“… a real strength of the writing was character. Each of the four men we encountered was drawn well; I believed in their humanity…this is a well performed, elegant and important show. It will stay in your head like the beat of a drum.”
Jessica Edwards – A Younger Theatre”

The true gems in this piece are the built-up soundscapes of African drumming, heavy breathing and dragged feet exercising in shackles…”
Callie Swarbrick – British Theatre Guide

“Silver Shores is a fine production; it tells a good story very well indeed. As producer, writer and director, Tian Glasgow proves to be a triple threat…”
Keji Dalemo – Afridiziak Theatre News
